Breaking down The Grand Tour season 2 sneak peek video

Frame by frame analysis

THE GRAND Tour has released a sneak peek of season 2 to celebrate Amazon Prime Day.

The makers of the show insist this isn’t the full trailer, it’s just a glimpse of what’s to come when the Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May motoring extravaganza airs later in the year. It should come as no surprise that monkey business is promised.

In typical style, the description of season 2 on says:

“Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May return for a new season of the world’s greatest show about three middle-aged men rampaging around the world having unusual adventures, driving amazing cars, and engaging in a constant argument about which of them is the biggest idiot. Although it’s also the only show that combines these things so the ‘greatest’ title is pretty much uncontested.”

Here’s a breakdown of the video:

The £140,000 Mercedes-AMG GT R. We drove this car in February but expect a Clarkson review on later this year.

A military vehicle blasts over sand dunes. It returns later in the video…

This looks very like the monstrous 710bhp McLaren 720S.

Jeremy gets a shock when something hits his rear window.

A light aircraft taking off… without moving forward? The cause might be revealed later in the clip.

A firefighting airtanker?

A muddy challenge looks to involve a motorcycle as well as a pick-up. We know that Hammond was knocked out while riding a bike in Mozambique

Something very funny, almost certainly involved May, just happened.

Hammond behind the wheel of that military vehicle?

Best guess from the experts here is that this is an Audi TT RS. But don’t quote us on that.

Clarkson enjoying the Mercedes-AMG GT R?

James May. Taking it slow and steady here for a change, by the looks of it.

A Lancia 037 rally car. One of these won the 1983 World Rally Championship constructors’ title in the hands of Walter Röhrl and Markku Alén.

A jet car? Surely not, after Hammond’s near-fatal accident in one in 2006? It does explain the levitating light aircraft above, though.

A series III Jaguar XJ6. On snow.

More buggy action in this series, then?

Taking a short cut in that military vehicle. Tell us in the comments what it is, by the way.

“Watch this!” says Hammond. We know what happened next.

Hammond waved off the line in the electric Rimac Concept_One supercar.

Moments before a rather big “off”.

“A second round of monkey business,” say the captions. Hold tight.
